When to use

  • You are hiring your first employee and need workplace policies in place before they start.
  • You have employees but no written policies and want to formalise your workplace expectations.
  • A WorkSafe visit, HR review, or employment dispute has highlighted that written policies are missing or out of date.
  • You want your obligations under the HSWA 2015, ERA 2000, and Human Rights Act 1993 documented and defensible.
  • You are purchasing the framewrk Employment Agreement and want the workplace policies that sit alongside it.

When NOT to use this pack:

  • Your business operates in construction, manufacturing, healthcare, or agriculture – these industries have additional sector-specific health and safety requirements and supplementary procedures will be needed alongside this policy.
  • You need to implement a drug and alcohol testing programme – testing requires specific authorisation in your employment agreements before this policy can be relied on for that purpose.
  • You have a collective agreement that governs your workforce – some collective agreements specify particular policy requirements that may differ from these templates.

Product description

Every NZ employer has legal obligations that go beyond the employment agreement. The Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, the Employment Relations Act 2000, and the Human Rights Act 1993 all impose duties on employers to maintain a safe, respectful, and compliant workplace. Written policies are how you meet those duties in practice and document that you took them seriously.

The framewrk Workplace Policy Pack gives you all four essential workplace policies in a single purchase, drafted by a qualified NZ lawyer and verified against current NZ legislation.

What is included:

Health and Safety Policy
Covers your primary duty of care under sections 36 and 37 of the HSWA 2015, worker duties under section 45, hazard identification and risk management using the full hierarchy of control, incident reporting, notifiable event obligations (including the WorkSafe 0800 030 040 number), emergency procedures, PPE, training and induction, worker participation, and a hazard register template (Appendix A) for your workplace.

Bullying and Harassment Policy
Covers your obligations under the HSWA 2015, the ERA 2000, and the Human Rights Act 1993. Includes clear definitions of workplace bullying, sexual harassment, racial harassment, and harassment on all other protected grounds. Sets out employer, manager, and employee responsibilities. Provides a complete complaints procedure covering informal resolution, formal complaint, investigation process (including a 20 working day investigation timeframe), outcomes, and retaliation protection.

Code of Conduct
Sets the standards of behaviour expected in your workplace. Covers professionalism and respect, honesty and integrity, confidentiality under the Privacy Act 2020, health and safety duties under section 45 of the HSWA 2015, social media and public communications, conflicts of interest, and outside employment. Includes a blank section for industry-specific conduct requirements. The investigation and disciplinary sections reflect the ERA 2000 good faith process including the employee’s right to a support person.

Drugs and Alcohol Policy
Sets out the business’s position on drug and alcohol use, your obligations under the HSWA 2015 to manage impairment as a workplace risk, voluntary disclosure and support provisions, a general testing framework requiring accredited provider and employment agreement authorisation before testing can be implemented, and a good faith disciplinary process. Includes choose-one options for alcohol at work events.

All four policies are designed to operate through your employment agreements rather than requiring separate employee signatures. The guidance notes in each policy explain how this works and when a signed acknowledgment may still be appropriate.

Delivered as editable Word documents.
